I chose RCI after seeing one on my friends Sequoia. It is a great upgrade to the stock part. I usually bank half a day whenever I wrench on my 2011 4runner and this took 20 minutes to install. Everything lined up perfectly. Well done RCI. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Got the steel skid. Had a small issue that Josh in customer service handled for me – he is a pleasure to talk to and deal with as he also answered some questions I had.
As for the skid plate it is sturdy and beatiful quality. The steel was heavy and a little tricky to install by myself, but, was able to do and really think this will be great when I do oil changes – or the dealer – no more over torquing my skid bolts!

This is the second skid plate I’ve ordered from RCI. I installed an aluminum one on my 2020 1794 Tundra because I don’t rock crawl with it, but I do drive low/no maintenance roads and pasture. It has been perfect for that and by the looks of the dings in it, it has saved a lot of wear and tear to the components it covers. Install was pretty easy and straightforward. So, being satisfied with that, I bought this skid plate in steel for my 2023 4Runner TRD PRO mostly because I was getting real tired of having to remove the whole thing every time I needed to change the oil filter and I would be more likely to do more serious off-roading with my 4Runner. Aluminum is fine as long as you realize it needs to be considered a disposable plate because although it will more than likely protect you if you hit something hard, you’re most likely going to break it doing that. Steel is tougher and you can usually fix it. This plate went on even easier than my RCI Tundra plate. Just some suggestions, it is heavier than aluminum obviously, and unless you have someone helping you, no matter how strong you are, you will struggle to hold it up while you try to get a couple of bolts threaded simply because of the lack of room to work and the awkwardness (obviously this might not apply if you have access to a vehicle lift). Using a jack, or using a motorcycle lift/jack makes it much easier. In fact, I have an old HF motorcycle jack and it made it a piece of cake with the 4Runner up on ramps. Secondly, do yourself a favor and order the bumper filler. It isn’t much more money, it adds protection for the radiator as well as some aerodynamics underneath, and looks better. A lot of folks wish they had ordered it after they install this plate or don’t realize it is offered by RCI.

I opted for the 1/4” raw aluminum finish. The overall quality and finish is great and it was super easy to install. I used a floor jack to help hold it up while I installed it. Having this skid plate made doing an oil change much easier since I didn’t have to drop it at all. It also looks awesome compared to the stock one.

After waiting over 2 months for an order that was listed as “In stock”. They finally shipped me the wrong order. This was after several calls to get a status. I would consider this as you explore your options for a skid plate.

I bought this for our 24 and was super easy to install. I could not be happier with the aluminum powder coated version.

Good skid plate. Would’ve been better if it was shipped with a Toyota hardware kit instead of a F-150 hardware kit.

Got the aluminum engine skid a few years back. Held up great until it met up with a hidden boulder that stopped my rig dead in its tracks. While the skid is a total loss, it absolutely did its job of protecting me from big time damage. Just placed an order for a steel one this time as I actually need it. Either material is a very solid buy! I love RCI and the only skids and sliders I’ll ever buy.

Just added skid and bumper filler plates to my 2014 FJ, replacing the original OEM plates. Very impressed with the quality of the RCI steel powdercoat plates and also the ease with which everything lined up. A big improvment!

2010 4Runner Trail Edition…Everything lined right up and great coverage. I didn’t realize it replaced both of the skid plates on the front of my 2010. From pictures I thought it mounted farther forward replacing the plastic guard underneath that protects the radiator. So I am still stuck with a 12 inch plastic guard forward of the RCI skid plate with no rear mounting holes to attach it to the new skidplate. That’s my fault though for not seeking clarification. Far better then the factory plates and I no longer have to drop everything to remove the oil filter. Did come with a little wear from shipping but in this case it is a skid plate so I don’t really care. Awaiting my rock sliders hope they don’t show up scuffed.

Bought an aluminum front skid for my 2022 4Runner. Outstanding fit-and-finish, powdercoating is really nice and even.

I ordered the engine skid plate for our 21 4Runner and could not be happier. This thing is robust and will keep our vehicle safe for many years. I previously ordered their sliders and after seeing the excellent quality of the sliders, I ordered the engine skid plate and was not disappointed. Outstanding quality and craftmanship.
Customer for life here!

I have the steel version, and just like all the other RCI skids I have, fitment and quality are top notch. I don’t worry when I’m wheeling.

Awesome upgrade to the factory splash guard. Fantastic quality, comes with all hardware, fit perfect. Best part is you no longer have to drop the whole thing to get at the oil filter like the factory guard. I’ll be buying the rest of the undercarriage skids.

Ordered the metal kdss version with powder coating. Box arrived pretty damaged. Opened the package up and a couple of the sides were bare metal from the powder coat chipping. I would say it’s the shippers fault but rci only used a sealed plastic bag to protect the skid plate. At least use some foam or use multiple boxes. Kinda sucks paying that much and already seeing damage that I didnt even do myself.

I love the skid. Pretty sturdy, with casing for differential. It’s not much heavier comparing to stock flimsy skid, did not spot any noticeable clearance loss.
Just a note to buyers with diff drop:
It looks like the plate fits just fine without spacers, differential is pretty close to the skid though. It shouldn’t be an issue, since they both mounted to the frame.
I saw some people on youtube and forums adding spacers from the diff drop kit to the middle mounts, i presume the skid should be able to bend for those spacers, i haven’t tried.
I chose not to do that. If there are problems, it should be fairly easy to add spacer later.
