Got the fuel tank skid in non-powdercoated aluminum right in time for a trip to Moab; it did great! I see now what people say about the gas tank being a low spot on the 4Runner. Lot’s of scrapes and scratches going on Fins n’ Things and Hells Revenge in my non-lifted TRD Off-Road but it worked exactly as I hoped! Even better, actually; I had expected more gouging from some research I had done on aluminum but they were pretty minor scrapes actually despite running over some pretty intense rocks. Install was pretty straight forward except for one bolt that was incredibly difficult to reach but I was able to get it in the end

Just got it installed. Pretty straight forward install (essentially the same as other companies). Got the aluminum version and it definitely is a big upgrade over the stock one. Should hold up well in the stuff I go through (mostly muddy rutted stuff with some smaller rocks)

Installed mine a couple years ago, this and the sliders were the first addition to my truck. Install was pretty basic, quality was great and they have both saved my a** a couple times!! Thanks RCI, finishing the rest off this week!

Received and installed yesterday. Agree with Peter that the hardest part was the top bolt on the front passenger side – unable to get a torque wrench on it. Also agree with Andrey that there is quite a bit of clearance but I pushed the passenger side up on the bracket (it is adjustable) and gained ground clearance – tried to match tank clearance on the drivers side which is fixed to the frame. There is a lip on the front driver side to help protect the tank but I was surprised that it wasn’t continued on the passenger half of the front. I ordered the black powder-cost steel option and it looks great. Installed by myself with the help of my floor jack.

It looks pretty sturdy, easy to mount (well it’s hard to get to some bolts, that does not count though).
I’ve got aluminum option, the weight of the skid is just 4 pounds over the stock skid, but looks a lot more sturdy than the stock one.
The only feedback I’d have, amount of clearance between the tank and the skid looks like an overkill, i ended up with over an inch of it. Seems like it waste of overall road clearance. I would definitely claim a half an inch back towards my road clearance.

I just installed these on my 4R over the weekend and it was a super easy process.
The hardest part was probably the top passenger side bolt that is in an odd position and in a bit tight area. Overall I am really pleased with the RCI gas tank skid and would recommend this to anyone.
